Dry Spell

The national football team of Niue has never scored a goal.

Niue is a small island nation in the South Pacific, with a population of 1,600. And their national football team has in fact only played two matches in its history - both in the 1983 South Pacific Games. It's not as if goals weren't scored in those matches, however. Niue lost 14 nil to Tahiti, and 19 nil to Papua New Guinea.

At this point you may be thinking, well, so what? It's a tiny nation with the population of a village. Of course their sports teams are going to get thrashed by far, far bigger countries like Tahiti or Papua New Guinea...

In May 2015, the national Rugby League team of Niue played South Africa. They won 48 - 4.

Mr. Finnemore --

Thank you for this sport(s) story. I found it interesting. It had a plot that held me to the end of the post.

However, I notice on the Wikipedia page for the Niue national rugby league team that they the score versus South Africa was 44-0.

Even more impressive.

I have a small request: who was the man you drew as entry two in the advent series this past December? I have given up trying to identify him.

The page is here: http://johnfinnemore.blogspot.com/2016/12/two.html

Thank you for your time.

- Thank you. Possibly the first sports post ever on this blog. Possibly the last, too.
- I don't want to be dogmatic about it, but I think my score may be the accurate one. I have edited the post to include a link to the actual game, so you can watch for yourself if you want to be sure!
- 'Advent series' is a generous name for it! It was Clarence Darrow.

There was a post on the Ashes, umm... over a decade ago.

Thank you so much for more superb JFSP, each new episode is the highlight of my week.

Mr Finnemore--

I apologize for doubting your scoring--I've been burned more than once by Wikipedia. I will not watch the match, but did scroll to the end and confirm you are correct. Go Niue, The Rock!

Of course it is Clarence Darrow and is unseeable any other way. Thank you.

I commend you again for your radio work. It's ideal.

What does the dolphin do during a match?

It would be great if some way could be found for Niue to play Sark, who have a similarly impressive football record of played 4,lost 4, scored 0 goals, conceded 55 (including a 20-0 defeat to the Isle of Wight), all at the wonderful Island Games in 2013 (whose participants includes famous islands like Gibraltar).

I have never been to this blog without leaving it with at least a smile. Sometimes even much more wholesome ideas of better being. That can be said about all of your work so far.
I think, you'll even need buying bigger hats in the following years, referring to your comedy awards wins.
Thank you!

I have been in financial mess for the past months, I'm a single mum with kids to look after. My name is Renee Joan Rothell, and am from Ridley Park, Pennsylvania. A couple of weeks ago My friend visited me and along our discussion she told me about Mr Martinez Lexie of ( Lexieloancompany@yahoo.com ); that he can help me out of my financial situation, I never believed cause I have spend so much money on different loan lenders who did nothing other than running away with my money. She advised, I gave it a try because she and some of her colleagues were rescued too by this Godsent lender with loans to revive their dying businesses and paying off bills. so I mailed him and explain all about my financial situation and therefore took me through the loan process which was very brief and easy.. After that my loan application worth 78,000.00 USD was granted, all i did was to follow the processing and be cooperative and today I am a proud business owner sharing the testimony of God-sent Lender. You can as well reach him through the Company website: http://lexieloans.bravesites.com OR text: +18168926958
